Ladysmith Cannery

The Ladysmith Cannery was built in 1900 on what was variously known as Ladysmith, Village or Ecstall Island at the mouth of the Ecstall River. Several parties owned and operated the cannery. In 1907 Peter Herman and his wife were operating the cannery under the name of Village Island Canning Company. In the same year, Peter drowned in the Skeena River while moving logs to a saw mill. A major problem on Ecstall Island was a reliable water supply which had to be piped under water from Port Essington.
I have found no pictures of the cannery.
